Romania is a country located in Southeastern and Central Europe, North of the Balkan Peninsula, on the Lower Danube,
within and outside the Carpathian arch, bordering on the Black Sea. Almost all of the Danube Delta is located within its territory.
It shares a border with Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to the northeast, and Bulgaria to the south.
Romania has the 9th largest territory and the 7th largest population (with 21.5 million people) among the European Union member states.
Its capital and largest city is Bucharest, the 6th largest city in the EU with 1.9 million people.
In 2007, Sibiu, a city in Transylvania, was chosen as a European Capital of Culture.

Water quality
Tap water is generally potable, but some tourists choose to buy bottled water.
Bottled water is at your discretion, and the price is very accessible (a 2-liter bottle may cost the equivalent of 0.7 Euros).
Programs (opening hours)
The banks are daily open between 9:00-18:00. Shorter hours are available on the week-end.
Post offices are open from Monday to Friday between 7:30-20:00, and on Saturday between 8:00 -14:00. On Sunday there is no mail service.
In towns, larger shops (malls) are open throughout the whole week, including the week-end. The small ones are usually
closed on Sunday, and during the week are open between 10:00 - 20:00.
